Queer as folk: season 3

Archive: Gay Themed

I was glad to see Michael get punched in the face in the first episode. When I first saw the show I thought Michael was supposed to be the nice guy ?we? (cough) were supposed to identify with. But he?s been so whiny and unaware that he mostly pains me. The only thing Michael and I have in common is owning a comic shop (I looked at the Rage comic online and it is terrible even compared to the worst commercial crap).

As the season continues I find myself less involved than ever in the show. Probably I?m watching because Charles likes it and wouldn?t if I weren?t with him.

A few weeks ago I had a rare sex dream. It featured Justin. The first time Brian fucked him has remained the erotic high point of the show for me. Really I?d much rather have dreamed about Peter Paige as Emmett. Emmett is the one guy in the show that I?d want as a boyfriend: sweet and very nelly. (Brian?s status as the most desirable man in Pittsburgh will forever baffle me.)

More interestingly: Boy Meets Boy, Queer Eye for the Straight Gay, Queer black eye, boy defeats boy

Season Four of Queer as folk begins Spring of 2004.

6Posted by: Beth on September 14, 2003 04:43 PM

I just want to say that Emmett is my absolute favorite! Unfortunately, I don?t have Showtime, so I have to keep waiting for the season?s to come out on DVD! AAARRRGGGG! I think Brian Kinney is an asshole, but for some strange reason, I like the whole Justin and Brian thing. I think Justin could be very good for Brian. If you are a big time QaF fan, e-mail me with updates! I?d LOVE to know what?s going on. Especailly with Emmett!

This is Beth again? Incase it wasn?t posted the first time, my e-mail is [email protected]. E-mail me with updates on Emmett!!!

Hello dear friends! I?m a girl from Brazil, I?m not gay but I love QAF and like everybody, I also love Brian! The third season ended last week and I?m crazy to watch the next one. When will it start?

9Posted by: sunkiss88 on October 13, 2003 08:35 AM

Is it just me or is the season for QAF totally different from any other show? I mean here it is, October and I still have to wait another 4-5 months for the new season??? It is cool that it runs through the summer, but that doesn?t help me now!!

10Posted by: kimmy on October 13, 2003 10:21 PM

Season 4 please!!!!!!

11Posted by: Richard on October 14, 2003 12:09 PM

Queer as folk 4 will start in Spring 2004.

The cable networks start programs throughout the year, not just in September like the US broadcast networks.

Odd scheduling has become the norm for popular shows. Sex & the City is on hiatus for a few months to make the last season longer. NBC will be stretching out the last episodes of Friends.

Just exploiting their commercial properties.

12Posted by: chris on October 15, 2003 01:17 PM

Why do people ?hate? Brian or think he?s an ?asshole?? Can no one see beyond the outward shell he presents to the world? Are you all so shallow that you only see the surface? Brian is smart, intelligent, disciplined, focused, quick, informed, knowledgeable. He is also tender and gentle, and deeply, deeply wounded. Had he not made himself into the person he is, he?d probably be institutionalized or in prison. A little compassion and understanding, please!

13Posted by: Pansexual Sodomite on October 15, 2003 02:18 PM

One person did describe the Brian character as a ?asshole.?

Another said that he ?loves? Brian.

That is one for, one against.

I said:

?Brian?s status as the most desirable man in Pittsburgh will forever baffle me.?

And it does. For someone to be that they?d have to have the face and body of someone like Frank Sepe or Travis Fimmel.

That has to do with my perception of contemporary gay sexual aesthetics. It isn?t a judgement on the character who the writers seem to conceive of something like an asshole with a hidden heart of gold.

14Posted by: alexis on October 19, 2003 01:13 PM

ok - brian is so..sort of sad really. (although i have only seen QAF thru season two because i can?t affored cable, i have to buy the dvd sets?) he loves justin and micheal and they try to show that as much as possible with out doing some over the top, over-dramatic scene where brian wouldn?t be brian. like my mom said, ?your cat is not your dog?. i love, absolutely love, that the writers seem to know this character so well and do not let fan pressure to make him into Romeo change him. he is brian, he is composed and controlled, and as that first seemed like a fault you start to realize that his affections - when given - mean so much more than, say, ted. ted would love a tree stump if it had a nice ass, but brian takes his time and makes sure it is genuine.
anyhow, i could go on for ever. as an lit major i spend a great amount of time analyzing characters. not learning how to spell. i just wanted to say how much i love the character relationships developed in season two. they are so much more complex and expertly excecuted. what started out as a silly vice has turned into an intellectual puzzle.
so, brian is pretty good and that is all.

I was wondering when the next seasons QAF will be coming out. I love the show and can?t wait for season 4.

16Posted by: Robin Shaw on October 21, 2003 08:40 PM

I feel that QAF is THE best show on television. There has never been a more honest and forthright depiction of gay life.

17Posted by: Monica on October 24, 2003 02:54 PM

Has anyone heard a release date for Season 3 on DVD? If so, could you let me know? By the way, I heard Season 4 is set to air March 2004 if anyone was wondering.

18Posted by: wickedripeplum on October 25, 2003 12:34 AM

I haven?t seen a release date for it anywhere, but Season 3 should come out on DVD around the same time that Season 4 starts airing. That?s how it worked with seasons 1 & 2 anyway.

Hi,
I am dying of isolation here in Japan?I cant wait for the new season. Of course I intend on getting it as soon as it comes out, however?. If anyone has a video copy of some of the episodes of this season?Maybe we could work something out. Begging? Please let me know..Money is ok too but not prefered. I am going to Bangkok this Christmas where I can get DVDs of movies etc. in exchange..
Thanks 4 your attention!

Ps. Im still talking season three. I havent seen an episode yet. Will be in Vancouver,BC. for two nights the 21st and 22nd of November so could pick em up?Videos that is..season four is a pipe dream away.. email : brazim@yahoo
I love all the characters. Also think that its a realistic depiction of lifestyles. Perhaps helps expose reality to the straight controlled world.
Never thought I?d see the day! On TV? ?never!

21Posted by: queer21yr on October 25, 2003 11:04 AM

why in season 3 is it that there are no more than 14 episode?s?for me it whas a sign that it whas the end for qaf the serie but i hope not so!!???
is it for sure that there will be a season 4?well i hope that ted will be healt back to the old funny ted now he is a big fucking asshol i think that all of his friend?s are not helping him the just go on with there live?s.sorry for my bad bad verry bad englis but hey if u understant it i love u big XX im 21yr holland [email protected] 2 time a _

22Posted by: Tight Sweater Boy on October 25, 2003 04:37 PM

If you search Google for ?Queer as folk season 3 DVD? all you?ll see are pirate DVDs. Didn?t see any mention of the release dates for the disks.

Having on the bad side of a couple of relationships with someone who had a bout with substance abuse I?m afraid there?s often not much you can do aside from helping them get professional help. You can?t do that until they are willing.

Sad.

23Posted by: Stefan on October 28, 2003 07:50 AM

IS there any chance Dr. David Cameron would come back? I liked his character a lot and i think he and michael are still perfect for each other? would anyone know how to contact the producers so they at least know that someone wants him back on the show?

24Posted by: Richard on October 28, 2003 08:16 AM

I think I may have read the actor wasn?t happy with the role. I kind of thought the cultured chiropracter was a bit funny but liked him better than Ben who is too strenuously goody-goody for my taste (but I?m sure delights many men).

Soap operas require steady change, inevitably Ben will leave, possibly die of AIDS.

25Posted by: John on October 29, 2003 01:33 PM

Hi Guys I?m from the UK and love QAF.
We only got season 1 over here.
I did get both season 1 & 2 on DVD import and am dying to see season 3. from what you all say it seems to be the best yet, but I have to admit your driving me crazy.
Keep talking

Since a few of you have asked about its availability:

The third season of the queerest show on TV is tighter, sexier and more fun than season two! If you order by January 15, 2004 you will receive a FREE copy of the Rage comic book with drawing by Joe Phillips (The House of Morecock)

does anyone know why season three was only 14 eps? season one was 22 and two was 20 ?can anyone explain?
thanks

I?d suggest you order it from:
http://www.tlavideo.com
No commercial connection with them - or I?d put an affliate link on the weblog - they are probaby America?s best retailer, distributor and producer of gay themed movies.

30Posted by: CAROLE on November 2, 2003 01:14 PM

richard I think it?s ok to be gay but the atheist part is not good at all, Richard god loves you no matter what you are or who you are don?t ever sell your self short you are probably awonderful person but I hope you see the light soon I hope your not an atheist just because your gay, theres an organist named Jeff at my church he?s also gay and hes a wonderful person, please Richard I don?t know what happened to make you feel this way but I hope you change your mind. GOD BLESS YOU,RICHARD

31Posted by: Richard on November 3, 2003 04:38 PM

My life-partner is a third generation liturgical (church) organist. I support everything he does related to church. He doesn?t hassle me about my atheism and I would prefer that anyone else who posts a comment honors the request posted at the beginning of the comment form. Or not comment at all.

32Posted by: Beth, again on November 8, 2003 10:54 AM

As I said before, Brian IS an asshole. But I did NOT say that I didn?t like him or that they should change his personality. My husband is an asshole, too. But I love him? LOL. I DO see the underlying person that Brian is. Alexis is right. If they wrote in to the script that Brian professes his undying love for Justin on bended knee, then it wouldn?t be Brian. With Brian?s personality, it would actually be embarrassing to see him do that! I don?t think they should ever change Brian. Each character on that show MAKES the show with the personalities written to them? I love all of them. But Emmett is still my favorite!

I second what mel said about there being only 14 episodes in season three. Why so little??

34Posted by: Cara on November 9, 2003 10:38 PM

I must say that I was a little disappointed to see little or no intimate sceens with Melanie and Lindsay.I hope next season will be better.

35Posted by: Ms. Jones-ing For QAF on November 13, 2003 10:14 PM

I wanted to see the lesbians get it on too. I have a total crush on Melanie. I think Brian is a great asshole. I love the way he mindscrews people into seeing his way. The way you all talk it sounds like season 4 will be the last season. Is that true?

36Posted by: Megan on November 17, 2003 12:36 PM

I CANT WAIT!!!! its to long,i love queer asfolk and i am niether gayoir a man, actually im a 14 year old straight girl, but i love that show!! its made me wan a gay friend or so long now. Justin and Brian are the best.. they must never break up.. ever.. Ethan was such an asshol and im glad that Jusin wen back to Brian.. THE FOURHT SEASON MUCT START!!

37Posted by: Rebecca on November 20, 2003 01:03 AM

I have been a faithful QAF watcher since the show began and absolutely love it. I am a straight 40 year old woman. I can?t wait for season 4. I do find it amazing that the few straight actors are comfortable in their gay characters.

38Posted by: Chris on December 2, 2003 03:05 PM

Ya, why is there only 14 episodes?

39Posted by: Catherine on December 6, 2003 12:08 AM

There were only 14 episodes produced in order to give the cast members more time to do other projects (movies, stage, etc.). This is something that the actors really wanted (probably Randy Harrison in particular), so the length of the season was adjusted to accommodate that.

Queer as Folk is one of the few shows where I actually like most of the characters. So whoever said season 4 is the last I sure hope you are wrong.

42Posted by: mrsyhoward on December 10, 2003 03:09 PM

to answer the queston about there only being 14 episode, i think that is because of the situations the directors pu the characters in, there are not a whole lot of directions the plot can go. therefore making less episodes can draw out the show for more seasons

43Posted by: Alex on December 10, 2003 09:38 PM

I love QAF but I do think that they offer a very limited view of the gay life. I am a gay mixed male who has gone to clubs too, but you wont find me as a support character or even a friend of a friend. The British version I can understand but don?t the American gays march for all gays or just the QAF look a likes?

44Posted by: Carolyn on December 23, 2003 04:07 AM

Hi all,
Nice to know I?m not the only one eagerly awaiting the forth season?. Love QAF? Even got my husband & friend into it? If we know we won?t be home we make it a point to tape? Hell, we tape every episode anyway for the archives?
This is for all the Brian fans? He is by far my favorite? Then Emmett? The whole cast is great but those two stand out? I love Brian?s attitude & when he lets the shields down & lets his emotions out?.Plus, the fact that he is absolutely beautiful does?nt hurt?
Just wanted to put mytwo centsin?
Happy Holiday?s all & a very Healthy, Happy New Year?.
Much Love, Carolyn e-mail:[email protected]

I love to have sex with Brian Kinney. Such a darling.

47Posted by: Jacinta on March 19, 2004 05:39 AM

I am more hooked on the show then ever before. I finally know what?s happening, and there were alot of times when I cried, and just smiled the whole way through.
I don?t blame Michael for being whingy, you just have to see it through his eyes.
Now, finally, the whole story is making sence, and after watching some of the 3rd series, I couldn?t help but feel so much more attracted to all the characters. =)

48Posted by: Samantha on April 2, 2004 08:48 PM

I love Queer as Folk, especially Gale Harold who plays Brian. I think they all do a fantastic job. I am so glad that they have signed on to do a fifth season. Does anyone know when Season 4 will be shown on Australian television?

49Posted by: Brian C. Leggett on May 30, 2004 06:50 PM

Hello. I have something to say about the show ?Quer as Folk.? I am sorry to say that I do not like that show for the mere fact that they promote homosexuality. The fact that you show men sleeping with men (this goes for women with women too) is disgusting. It?s immoral and it goes against he bible. If you ever read the bible, it says in Leviticus, chapter 18, verse 22, it clearly states ?Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.? It also states the same text in Leviticus chapter 20 verse 13, sayingIf a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.? Homosexuality is nothing but filth and when men sleep with men and women sleep with women, it defiles what God has created. God didn?t make man for man or woman for woman. He created man for woman and woman for man. I can tell ou now that the homosexual practices of today shall not go unpunished. You may think that what you are doing is right, but in the eyes of God you have committed an act that is unclean, unjust, and totally disgusting. You will have to answer to God for your unrighteousness. There is nothing good about homosexuality or lesbianism. These kinds of practices are immoral and it defiles mankind. I am not a preacher, but I am a human being who does not and will never support homosexuallity or lesbianism. It is wrong. It?s bad enogh that the proposal of homosexuals and lesbians are being permitted to be married in these days. Marriage has now been defiled due to the fact that the government is allowing such filth to prosper. Marriage is SANCTIFIED FOR MAN AND WOMAN ONLY!!!!!!! But you somehow forget that. It clearly states that in the bible, it says that HOMOSEXUALS WILL NOT INHERET THE KINGDOM OF GOD. Understand what this means. You are still human if you are homosexual or lesbian. But the sin that you commit of sleeping with a person of your own gender will keep you from reaching heaven. This lifestyle is not of God and it is not accepted by God. Nor shall it be accepted in society. Turn away from this sin that defiles the world. It?s the truth that HOMOSEXUALITY is a sin and if you commit this act, may God help your soul. So make up your minds right now. Do you want to spend the rest of eternity in the presence and comfort of God, or do you want your sin to cause you to loose out on inheretting heaven?s goodness. Homosexuality is not good. It is evil, filthy, and disgusting.
