I first bought this book for my 10 year old son in 1993. I still have the book, although it is worn and tattered. The pages are colorful and interactive, and if you study the book, you will see the passengers on the bus have their own "story" to tell as they ride the bus. You can't help but to sing... more info

An excellent choice for many ages. This book is a beautiful and rich rendition of a traditional tale. Zelinsky has filled the pages with orderly, exquisitie details that are reminescent of Renaissance paintinings. The illustrations merit review closely and the reader will find new wonders each time... more info

My three year old son loves this book and we read it every night. He is constantly finding new things to open, close, move, etc. After about 2 months of constant use, one of the tabs finally broke, which is much better than other lift/move books he has. Highly recommend this book!

This is a retelling of the famous children's "fairy" tale, first presented by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the early 19th century. A young mother has to guess a gnome's name (he had been spinning straw into gold for her) in order to prevent him from taking her new-born babe. This book was a 1987... more info

Hansel and Gretel is my fav fairy tales. Almost all stories of Grimm have moral values and this one is no exception. Fairy tales were told as form of entertainment too. They show the kids the right way to behave. However, If pondered over, Hansel and Gretel is one fairy tale with Biblical... more info

Although written around a century ago, this still remains one of the great classics of Children's literature. I have not read Harry Potter yet, but I would suspect this book is at least comparable. The plot is actually fairly complex -- there's humor, drama, romance, and magic. It can be read by... more info

A truly enjoyable folktale. With Paul Zelinsky's inventive and endlessly amusing illustrations, the book tells as well as it views. With sentences like, "Varmint, I'm much obliged for that pelt you're carryin'", Swamp Angel's showdown with the bear Thundering Tarnation is of epic proportions.... more info

My children received this book as a gift when they were small, and I have tried to buy it as a gift for others - I am delighted to see it is available! The illustrations are lovely, and the text has the same rythmic, soothing quality as the best bedtime books. As far as I am concerned, "Sun's... more info

Lore Segal and Paul Zelinsky have created a timeless, fine, humorous work that is delightful for both adults and children. Mrs. Lovewright is among the funniest and most beautifully rendered characters I've found in children's literature.
I give this book the high praise I reserve for such... more info

La... more info

My son and I just finished listening with rapt attention to the audio version of "Ralph S. Mouse," which is wonderfully read by actor William Roberts. Beverly Cleary's third book in her "Mouse and the Motorcycle" series comes to life with Roberts' many voices for characters such as Ralph, the hotel... more info

This book is a really pleasant surprise and states on the back that this book is for ages 11 and up, although I think younger children could read this as well. The illustrations - black & White drawings - really are wonderful and help to bring this story alive. My book is marked "Special... more info

Illustrated beautifully by Paul Zelinsky, the book has its strengths and its weaknesses. Looking at the beautiful pen and ink drawings, comparisons to Chris Van Allsberg come immediately to mind. Zelinsky has drawn characters that are beautifully lifelike and real. The story itself leaves a bit to... more info

This is a great book for any young reader, especially those interested in fantasy and mythology, although some parts are much different than the "tradional" view of merfolk in general (such as removable tails), but the story was good. What I noticed first was the ommission of various details, such... more info

The book I read, called Strider, is about a boy named Leigh who finds a lonely dog while walking to the beach with his friend Barry. When Leigh calls the dog, it doesn't budge, but then it comes to him eventually. He names the dog Strider because the dog takes long strides when it runs. This dog... more info
