This album is pretty good. I have a signed copy, so it's even better. But I was disappointed by the fact that the band was only given four tracks to make its current collective statement. Those four, especially "Charmed" and "Chains of Love", are the best songs here. "Wreck of the Carlos Rey" is another good one, with Richard Thompson sounding, at times, like David Hildalgo. "Is This All There Is?", featuring Little Willie G., is another excellent tune. Several of the others, however, are downright maudlin;...

Los Lobos are arguably America's best current rock n' roll band.
This time out, they weigh in with a CD comprised of collaborations and remakes of some of their older tunes. Comparisons will undoubtably be made with Santana's recent collaborative releases, but on this CD one gets the feeling that there's a lot more mutual admiration and melding of styles. The last LL Album I bought was Kiko. Back then I considered it to be one of the best CDs I had bought in years.
Now I say the same about this one.
LL are great musicians, and add a little something to material that could otherwise be perceived as good but a little traditional. Their guitar riffs are always a little off the beaten track, their drum/bass backing always a little interesting, their instrumentation playful and virtuos, and the production flawless.
