Very good sound, lightweight, and easy to drive...:

I was looking for a good set of headphones for my portable MiniDisc player. After doing some research, I decided to try the HD 497's. Overall, I found them to be a very good headphone for the money. They are very efficient and even with the low output from my Sony MiniDisc player, I found that turning the volume up half way was enough to produce sound at moderate levels. Great headphones:

I ordered these headphones from Amazon.com after I saw a New York Times piece just before Christmas raving about them. I have not been disappointed. On the plus side the sound quality is superb - I listen to everything from classical to rap. The feel is comfortable - both on the ears and on the top of the head - where there's a nice cushion. Not snug - even after a few hours. There's good length on the cord - so I can easily walk around the office. I've tested them on a Sony NetMD and on the Dell Latitude.... more info

One of the charms of headphones is that they're a lazy person's no-brainer technology. No programming, digital settings, or instructions are necessary to using, benefitting from, and evaluating the product. Consequently, I now have along with broad experience in cans more of them than I require. The only pair I've been absolutely and completely satisfied with are the Sennheiser PX100's, which can be transported safely in a back pocket and worn and enjoyed interminably.
