Excellent bluegrass sampler:

Rounder have priced this very competitively, hoping that people who buy this will think it is so brilliant that they will buy some of the albums from which the tracks are taken. To encourage this, the extensive liner notes give all the relevant information required to track down whichever album contains your favorite tracks. But although you might end up spending more money on Rounder albums, this compilation stands on its own merit.

THE PLACE TO START BLUEGRASS NEWBIES:

There is a multitude of talent on this 2-cd set.

Starting with J.D. Crowe in the least "nasal" singing I've heard them do, with "Old Home Place", and ending up the first disc with "Model Church" by the Bluegrass album band, it really sets people up with the least "jarring" sort of vocal that I've heard. (I don't mind the 'High Lonesome Sound' at all, but some people have been known to cringe the first time.

For the more traditional, there's Hazel Dickens, and Hazel and Alice, Joe Val, etc.
