          I just finished A. L. Haskett's delightful book, Duncan Delaney and the Cadillac of Doom. To be honest, I was a little put off by the title but the cover art and the book description caught my interest. I started the book one evening and didn't put it down again until I finished later that night. I don't want to give away the plot so I'm not going to go in to specifics.           "Duncan Delaney" is a great read. It reminds me of early Tom McGuane or Tom Robbins. The story moves right along, from Wyoming to Hollywood, and it kept me laughing all the way. The characters are always entertaining, if sometimes a bit surreal or cartoonish (but in a good way) and I always cared about what happened to them, sometimes more than the charcters seemed to care about themselves.           This was an entertaining read with fun characters. The dialogue is lively. The book has moments of humor. I would have given it 5 stars, but there were vague moments. Still, it is a good book, and I recommend it to anyone looking for Robbins-like characters.
