Excellent!:
This is one of the better weight training books on the market. It cuts through the multitude of muscle building "garbage" and gives the real scoop. The section on supplements is excellent since most of them are a waste of money anyway. A healthy well balanced diet combined with adequate rest and the exercise routines in this book will give great results. Books like this bring some sanity to the weight lifting world.

I learned a lot from this book and enjoyed the tone of it (although "Idiots' guide to..." would have been too much for me. I can recommend this book to somebody who is just starting out. I think this is perfect for somebody who is working out with a multi-gym machine or with no machines at home. Actually the parts I enjoyed most were not the Exercise sections. I chose "Teach Yourself Visually Weight Training" over this initially because that one shows and explains exercises precisely for more machines that...more info
Valuable, but often too true to its title:
At most times this book is a clear and valuable guide for the novice weightlifter. But there are others when it bogs down in condescending simplicity and reveals the petty contentiousness of the co-authors.They explain that free weights are not the gift of philanthropists and that dumbbells can come in many configurations and materials. They give two examples -- shiny chrome and gray steel. Ok ladies, I think I'm getting it now.
