The History of Tolkein's Imaginitive World:
The Silmarillion is quite an undertaking as a reader. The book is not exceptionally long, but it is written more or less like a Bible of Middle Earth--making it more difficult to read than say....The Lord of the Rings. Then again, if The Lord of the Rings fascinated you, you probably would be willing to deal with Tolkein's jargon in this case. The Silmarilion's style is in the great tradition of the Greek epics and the Bible.
