Fast, funny, and freaky:
I'm not a particularly fast reader, but I read this book in no time flat. It's one of those reads that keeps you turning the pages, that makes you want to know what could possibly happen next that would be funnier or more disturbing than what you've just read.
Augusten Burroughs has a light touch, even when dealing with horrific subject matter. To fault him for not being as laugh-out-loud funny as David Sedaris is to miss the point. AB is writing his memoir of a difficult (to put it mildly) childhood....

Selective Memory?:
Since I attended college and spent many years hanging out in the environs of Amherst and Northampton, Massachusetts, I can say that the physical world Burroughs evokes is a true one. I am just not sure if his life is.This book portrays a series of events and people that are so far off-balance and off-kilter that it's hard to really believe that this happened to Burroughs. Whether or not Burroughs only took select events to present and embellish, the result is so out there that the center really doesn't...

Humourous and yet....:
Yes this author tells his story with humor. But, underneath the laughter lies the pain of living through a difficult childhood. Mr. Burroughs did well in telling us his story in 'DRY',and as with 'DRY', you still know the life he led that took him through the addictions he suffered. It made me understand all the more another book I read called 'NIGHTMARES ECHO'. In that book the author details that though you see the addict,prostitute and homeless person-don't just assume they want to live life that way....more info
